Safeguarding Information for Parents
From a school perspective, the safeguarding of children means protecting them from harm or damage and forms part of a framework which keeps children under the age of 18 safe from exploitation of any kind.
Pupils tell us they feel safe at our school. However, we know they are at greater risk of coming to harm through their own behaviour or that of others because of their particular needs. Everyone, staff and governors, take safeguarding very seriously.

Our Safeguarding Governor is Ms James.
The Principal and the DSL Lead complete the Section 175 Safeguarding audit for the Local Authority on time each year.
The DSL and DDSL's will attend local safeguarding briefings run by the local authority where important information is disseminated. All of this information is then distributed to staff and governors via our regular Local Academy Council meetings.
Keeping Your Children Safe
At King’s Leadership Academy Bolton, we recognise the importance of excellent attendance and behaviour in keeping children and young people safe and we strive to improve engagement in learning and achievement in education. We offer a broad curriculum that includes a focus on social and emotional well-being as well as teaching about potential risks a young person may face. We value parents and carers as vital partners and help them to support their child in staying safe.
It is the school’s duty to provide a safe environment and all staff have responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We follow a rigorous recruitment process to ensure we only appoint staff who understand how to keep children and young people safe. All adults in contact with pupils have an enhanced criminal records check and are recorded on the school’s single central register. All staff are trained in safeguarding and child protection and follow our comprehensive safeguarding and child protection policies.
We record all safeguarding concerns using our school MIS (Bromcom) which is an online system for recording, updating, reviewing and analysing concerns.
How to Raise a Concern
If you have any concerns about the safety and/or welfare of a child or young person please do not hesitate to talk to a member of staff at the school. We will always listen.

How Information About Your Child Will Be Used
The personal data collected will be stored and used by us to provide our services to you. We will share relevant data with Children Safeguarding Partner Organisations also involved in providing services to you. We will collect store and use your personal data in line with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018.

Where there are serious concerns a referral will be made to Children’s Services or the Local Authority Designated Officer if the issue relates to a staff member.

Operation Encompass - Safeguarding Against Domestic Abuse
The purpose of Bolton Encompass is to safeguard and support children and young people who have been involved in or witnessed a domestic abuse incident. Domestic abuse impacts children in a number of ways. Children are at increased risk of physical injury during an incident, either by accident or because they attempt to intervene. Even when not directly injured, children are greatly distressed by witnessing the physical and emotional suffering of a parent.
Encompass has been created to address this situation. It is the implementation of a key partnership working between the police and schools. The aim of sharing information is to allow ‘Key Adults’ the opportunity of engaging with the child and to provide access to support that allows them to remain in a safe but secure familiar environment.
Following the report of an incident of domestic abuse, by 9.00am on the next school day the school’s Key Adult will be informed that the child or young person has been involved in a domestic incident. This knowledge, given to schools through Operation Encompass, allows the provision of immediate early intervention through silent or overt support dependent upon the needs and wishes of the child.
