King's Leadership Academy Bolton

Message to Parents Regarding School Closure

Dear Parents

This is a letter I never imagined having to write but, due to the recent events, from tomorrow afternoon (Friday 20th March 2020) we will be closing King’s Leadership Academy Bolton until further notice. When I first met all of you I promised we would provide the world class education, and support, the young people of Bolton deserved. Our commitment to this goal remains as strong as ever and we will continue to provide this education even whilst your children remain at home. Although the buildings might be shut the school will continue through the use of technology.

Distance Learning

Each day, before 9am, you and all students will receive an email detailing the work for that particular day. Each day there will be the following work set

  1. Maths- via the HegartyMaths programme
  2. English- a comprehension task
  3. Other subject- reading plus questions
  4. Other subject- reading plus questions
  5. 2 x Knowledge quiz (to be completed online)
  6. ‘Read-Cover-Write-Check’ homework task

Other Subject Timetable

All work will be uploaded to ‘Google Classroom’ for their teachers to check by 4pm at the latest. Please find a guide attached on how to use this. House-points will also be awarded daily to keep the students motivated.

We would also like you to read with your child for at least 30 minutes a day. There are some short stories on their Mill’s Google Classroom if they don’t have a book available.

We will also provide some websites that further to your academic work, students can use for exercise and mindfulness.

Each week the Mill tutor will be making a ‘check-in’ phone-call with your family to stay in contact and if you have any concerns about anything or need assistance in any way please let us know. Depending on how long schools are shut, the education plan/provision will be reviewed accordingly so is subject to change.

Key Workers

The Government has promised to keep schools open for children of key workers, if you fall into this category, and need assistance with childcare, please contact me ASAP so we can sort out a suitable provision.

Free School Meals

If your child is eligible for free school meals the Government has announced there will be funding available for families to cover this. We are awaiting details of how this will work, as soon as we know we will contact families affected.

School Trips

The upcoming trip to the Anderton Centre has been postponed till the autumn.

Hygiene

Whilst the students are away we will be carrying out a ‘deep clean’ of the whole premises.
