King’s Leadership Academy Bolton recently welcomed students, families, alumni, and members of the local community for its second annual Community Iftar - an evening filled with reflection, connection, and celebration under the theme: “Understanding Ramadan – A Journey of Reflection.” The majority of the King’s Bolton student body is Muslim, so this exciting event was an excellent opportunity for the school to recognise and celebrate the identity of its students.
The event began with a powerful assembly, where King’s Bolton students took centre stage to share what Ramadan means to them through heartfelt speeches, moving poetry, and personal reflections. The key themes touched upon by the student speakers included self-discipline, empathy, gratitude, and spiritual growth. They explained how Ramadan is a time to consider those less fortunate and be grateful for what you have. They also talked about the importance of connecting with faith, community, and loved ones during this special month. The audience also experienced heartfelt Quran recitations (both in Arabic and English) as well as a beautiful performance from talented Nasheed performer Junaid Chapti. Guests also viewed a touching student-led video, created by the school’s Journalism Club, that captured students’ experiences of Ramadan and explained the traditions and practices they partake in.
Principal Jason Roberts delivered a thought-provoking address, reflecting on the importance of shared journeys, empathy, and the strength that grows from community bonds. His words echoed the evening’s central message - one of unity, understanding, and community spirit.
Adding to the night’s purpose, Crescent Food Bank - Bolton’s first halal food bank - spoke about their vital role in the community, highlighting the importance of social responsibility. Funds raised during the event were dedicated to supporting their ongoing mission to assist local families in need.
Guest speaker Rory Gaskin, Founder of The Learners Collective, shared his inspiring personal story of embracing Islam at the age of 15. His message of perseverance, reflection, and the transformative power of faith and community deeply resonated with attendees.
Following the assembly, guests gathered for prayers before joining together to break their fast with a delicious meal. The lively atmosphere was one of warmth, gratitude, and unity - capturing the true essence of Ramadan.
A special thank you goes to Netesha Butt, Associate Senior Leader in Character & Diversity, for organising such a meaningful and well-executed event. It was a beautiful celebration of community, reflection, and togetherness
